The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation and Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown celebrated completing a major project that transformed a vacant lot into affordable housing for Youngstown residents. Several Youngstown community representatives showed their support for YNDC’s project at their ribbon cutting at the duplexes on Tuesday, including The Raymond John Wean Foundation, Sixth Ward Councilwoman Anita Davis and the Glenwood Neighbors Business Association.
YNDC teamed up with several organizations to acquire the property, including the Mahoning County Land Bank. The new construction project began in March adding two duplexes with four apartment units each in the 3000 block of Glenwood Avenue that was unused at the time.
The project is being completed by Joe Koch Construction. In each apartment, there’s two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and dining area, living room and in-unit laundry. Each unit is over 1,000 square feet each with covered and visitor parking.
The project is being completed by YNDC through funding from Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh’s Affordable Housing Program and the Youngstown’s HOME program. YNDC said they’ll be starting on the next phase of development for the duplexes in spring 2025. PNC Bank also provided construction financing for the project, according to YNDC.
