Celebrating 75: Building Community, Advancing Equity

We are marking our 75th year by celebrating solutions for stronger communities — and the local changemakers leading the way.

Through programs and events, storytelling initiatives and resources, we are sharing learnings and celebrating the impact of resident-led work that is creating authentic change.

Together, we can create innovative solutions that work toward a shared vision of change: Empowered residents creating a healthy, vibrant, equitable and economically stable Mahoning Valley.

Be sure to check out The Business Journal’s feature on how we’ve evolved over our 75 years in philanthropy.

Anniversary Summit

On September 10, we brought together more than 150 resident, nonprofit, civic and government leaders to discuss equitable compensation and shape solutions together.

The Vanguard of the Valley

Meet the Vanguard of the Valley. They are sowing community gardens, empowering women, creating education opportunities for youth, connecting formerly incarcerated individuals to jobs, supporting the growth of small businesses, serving in government, running nonprofits, organizing neighborhoods, bringing commercial development to forgotten places, and promoting the imperative of racial equity. The Vanguard of the Valley are fighting for a better community day in and day out because the Mahoning Valley is their home. Our home.

Over the course of 2024 and 2025, we are sharing stories that demonstrate the good work of our region’s vanguards. The Wean Foundation is grateful to call these individuals and their organizations partners in our work toward a shared vision of a healthy, vibrant, equitable and economically stable Mahoning Valley.
